Old Factory Soap Company Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Soap

Old Factory’s Most Frequently Asked Questions

At Old Factory, we absolutely LOVE when people ask us questions. Knowledge is power, and knowing about the products you use daily is important not only for your personal health, but for the health of the environment around you. After the cleaning products you use go down the drain, they eventually end up in our water, in our ground, in our plants, in our food – and the cycle begins again.  This is why we feel that it is so important to teach customers about reading labels, and being aware of the ingredients in their products.  We promise to answer your questions honestly, and thoughtfully – and always disclose all of the ingredients we use on our labels.

Here are a few of our most frequently asked questions – if we don’t cover your question – feel free to comment below!

What would you like to know about Old Factory?

People always ask us the best soap for eczema or psoriasis.  There are a few that we recommend using to support your eczema / psoriasis that we have seen work extremely well for customers in the past – both children and adults with severe cases of eczema and psoriasis.  Many customers use our soap exclusively to support issues that arise from dry, itchy, irritated skin.  These suggestions would include our Lavender, Benzoin, Bergamot bar from our Shea Butter & Flaxseed Oil line, and our Milk & Honey, and Field & Flower from our Goats Milk line.

Yes! See question above about eczema.  We suggest the same soaps for both adults and children.  For the super young ones, start out with our Milk & Honey – this soap is very mild, and part of our goats milk line.  If your child has severe itchiness, try giving them a bath with the bar for its first use. The oats on top of the bar will fall into the bath and soothe the skin even more (and add some extra oats in if you have them on hand!).

Yes – our Olive Oil, Storyline, and Shea & Flax lines are completely vegan.  The only animal products we use are fresh goats milk, from happy pastured dairy goats (our Goats Milk line), and honey from local, raw honey company Fowler Farms in Texas (Milk & Honey, part of our Goats Milk line).  A complete list of ingredients for each bar is listed on each individual product page,  but if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask us.

I WISH I could answer this question, but its very hard because aroma is very unique to the individual….not to mention that natural perfumes have a very different “presence” then synthetic perfumes.  Natural scents are much more subtle, but they are more complex and many times last longer.  It also depends on the natural oils used in each of our perfumes.  Some scents are very fleeting, such as orange – while others are very strong and stable – example Frankincense.  All in all, you will just have to test it out for yourself and decide! If you are a person that likes strong smelling things – start with our Woode, our Lucid Dream, our Mint and Mary.  If you are a person that likes more subtle aromas – start with our Milk & Honey, our Lavender, Benzoin, Bergamot, or our White Rabbit.

Another question that is very hard to answer because its relative to the individual, and what soaps they have used before.  As a general rule, our longest lasting soaps are in our Shea & Flax line.  This line has a very hard bar, and will last quite a long time as long as you keep it out of standing water.  Our Olive Oil line (storyline) is a bit softer, and more lathery then our shea & flax line – meaning that it will go a little quicker. Again, keep it out of standing water to lengthen its lifespan.  Our Goats Milk line is our most lathery bar, and therefor washes away the quickest. This lather is also great for your skin – so you see how each has its benefits regardless of how long it lasts?  Always remember that if you keep your bars out of standing water they will last quite a long time.

The price of our soap directly reflects the quality of our ingredients, and the hard work we put into the formulation of each bar.  Simple ingredients in their purest forms. High quality recipes fit for kings and queens, but priced for the people. Just read our ingredients. Our formulations were designed as powerful support for your skin. We will never compromise quality for price, and we’ll never sink to low marketing tricks such as adding tiny percentages of decadent oils just to get it on our labels. We list all of the ingredients on our labels – no hidden filler oils, no palm oil.

Yes!! One of Old Factory’s founders has extremely sensitive skin as well – to the point that she had no other option but to start her own soap company.  We developed our recipes specifically to be very nourishing.  We use very gentle ingredients.  If you have extremely sensitive skin, and are nervous about trying something new, I would suggest starting with our Milk & Honey bar from our Goats Milk Line. This bar contains few, but powerful ingredients: saponified organic olive oil, organic coconut oil, organic flaxseed oil, organic shea butter, fresh goats milk, raw honey, organic oats.  Thats it!  Powerful, fresh ingredients.

This is a question/statement that we hear all of the time.  I always reply the same way, make sure you are looking at the ingredients of the soap you use!  Is the soap you are using mostly soybean oil, or palm oil?  Does it contain preservatives, synthetic fragrances, colors, or is it glycerine based? Who developed the recipe? These are all factors to consider, especially if you are having trouble with dry skin.  In the coldest part of winter, you may need a little extra moisturizing help – but in general your soap should nourish your skin enough to keep it healthy.  Our soap base is always full of high quality, nourishing oils, meant to support your skin at all times. Once you try our soap – you will never go back!
