Mexican Mint Marigold Soap

Reaching into the heart of this region, we pull out Tagetes Lucida, commonly known as Mexican Mint Marigold.  This beautiful plant has long been admired for its medicinal qualities as well as its exotic aroma. This bar features locally micro-distilled Mexican Mint Marigold essential oil along side several other complementary aromas and is topped with African marigold seeds from Old Factory’s garden. This soap is made with the spirit of the season where the light is pure, and the dark is purifying.

“Cloud plant, as this herb is known in Mexico, was first documented there in the sixteenth century by Spanish explorers. According to legend, the ancient Aztec chieftains used a powder made from the aromatic leaves of mint marigold to calm the hapless victims of sacrificial rituals. The leaves have also been used medicinally in folk remedies for malaria, colic, and colds; a poultice of the leaves is a traditional treatment for rattlesnake bite.” – Mother Earth Living.

Pure Plantain, Unscented Plantain Hydrosol Soap

Limited Edition Plantain Hydrosol Soap by Old Factory.  Many think of the Plantain we find in our backyards here in Central Texas (and across the country) as an unwanted garden weed.  Did you know that it actually has a long history of medicinal use?  This amazing herb can actually do quite a lot.  Today I will just stick with the topical applications, but do your own research and see the many wonderful uses for this common plant. Plantain is used for blister, rashes, burns and cuts, poison ivy breakouts, scorpion and other insect stings, sunburns, swollen joints, sore muscles, sprains and dandruff.  It accelerates topical regeneration – keeping your skin healthy, beautiful, young looking, and clean.

This bar of soap is based in our olive oil recipe and contains plantain hydrosol, distilled here in the texas hill country- a collaborative distillation between Old Factory and a friend of ours with an abundance of plantain. What is hydrosol? During the plant distillation process, the end result is essential oil and hydrosol (plant waters). Hydrosol is often thought of a “byproduct” of the essential oil industry, but its really quite powerful itself.  It often doesn’t have the same powerful aromatic qualities, however it does contain the life energy of the plant – and all of the water soluble components of the plant.  Though often hydrosol’s do contain some aromatic qualities, the plantain hydrosol aromatics do not come through into this bar so it is essentially a powerful, but unscented bar.

As part of the olive oil recipe, this bar is medium hard – with a good stable lather.  This hydrosol seems to boost the lather immensely, offering a creamy luxurious shower with immediate after effects of smooth feeling skin.  Try a bar yourself, and see what this plant does for you.

Tea Tree + Lavender Clay Bar Soap

A simple fresh scent – Lavender and Tea Tree essential oil with Brazilian Purple Clay in our olive oil base recipe.  We must be pining for the spring I think.  This bar may look simple, but it provides a silky smooth lather, fit for kings and queens.

Great for dirty hands, farmers feet, or deep, deep cleansing.  Rosemary & Lime is an amazing scent – so fresh, so exhilarating – you can’t help but smile when smelling this bar.  A good helping of pumice is behind this bar’s deep scrub, but don’t worry, we have balanced it out with our shea butter & flaxseed oil recipe to keep the bar hard and strong.  French Green Clay will help with a topical detox, add a bit of silkiness to the lather, and leave your skin feeling super smooth.

**The Pumice in this bar is a STRONG EXFOLIATOR – not great for body in the shower, pumice is too hard on the soft areas- amazing for feet, and hands.  Wonderful to use while in the bathtub.

This Limited Edition Soap bar is scented with warm, sweet notes of Honey and Benzoin, and grounding notes of two varieties of cedar (Texas an Virginian). Layered in this bar you will find a healthy dose of honey, cranberry powder, French yellow clay, poppyseed, and rosehip powder.  Finishing off the top, the bar is sprinkled with Black Pekoe tea and dried orange peel.

Featuring layered notes of Lemongrass, Clary Sage, Tea Tree, Amyris and Juniper Berry among a bed of green chlorophyl specked with poppyseeds waiting to push their way up through the ground.  The poppyseeds in this bar of soap will not germinate, BUT the label of this bar is printed on compostable seed paper. Poppyseeds make a great exfoliant for dirty hands, use this bar as a gardeners soap.

Working Hands Bentonite Clay Soap

A bar for Working Hands.  This simple, unassuming bar will clean and refresh the dirties of hands.  Featuring Bentonite Clay, a natural cleansing material that binds with and removes toxins, and bacteria on the skin.  Bentonite clay is also great for inflammatory issues such as eczema and psoriasis.  Based in our olive oil recipe, this bar features a refreshing blend of patchouli, basil, benzoin, amyris, and copaiba balsam essential oils.  A few mustard seeds are thrown in to help exfoliate and produce lather.  This bar is lovely on hair and skin, but especially effective for painters, gardeners, automotive technicians, and others with dirty jobs.

Snowy Night #1

SNOWY NIGHT SKY SOAP attempt #1

Ok so this limited edition soap did not come out as planned – my vision – a beautiful black and white bar reminiscent of clean snow bright falling onto the black earth at night. The reality – what you might find on the street a few days after this beautiful event. Some melting salt, a few glimmers of that white snow, but mostly a mess.  THAT BEING SAID – it smells wonderful, and looks just OK.  I still want to throw this out to you guys to try because I love all of the ingredients, the soap itself came out great – and once you get it in the shower or bathtub you wont really care how it looks – right?  So we’ve got a great deal for you on this one! 

Heres the good part!  The ingredients: this bar is a classic olive oil recipe with notes of basil and lime. Its really refreshing and wonderful scent.  Deep sea mineral mud and activated charcoal give it the dark color, and work to extract toxins from your skin – this is a great bar for a winter bath.  White clay will make the later of this bar silky smooth, and has a far away aroma of its own.  Topped with a few beads of salt – again, use this bar in the bath and it will give you a nice relaxing soak!

BASIL & ALOE DEEP CLEANSING BAR with pure essential oils, pumice, aloe vera juice, activated charcoal in our goats milk soap recipe. This basil & aloe bar offers lots of deeply cleansing lather, and is freshly scented with pure essential oils of clementine, basil and curcuma.  A tiny bit of pumice offers a deep scrub, while activated charcoal boosts lather and helps to carry away impurities.  Nourishing carrot powder, aloe vera juice, and parsley powder will keep your hands feeling silky smooth.

Lavender Neem Soap

Our latest limited edition features three powerful hitters in the natural healing world – lavender essential oil, benzoin resin and organic neem powder.  This bar is sweet, soothing – and perfect for your entire body.  I have also found this bar to be quite nice in my hair!  Neem has been used in hair products for many years.  Its also known to be insecticidal, so I would imagine this would make a good dog soap, though I haven’t tried it on Rowdy yet (all of the other ingredients are dog safe as well).  This bar very nice lather, and a soft scent.  The soap base is our olive oil base recipe, so its a medium hard bar with lots of lather.

FRUITS OF SUMMER Here we are again, in the midst of summer! Long, hot days – cooler clear nights. A healthy dose of rain this year has made our garden go crazy. Enjoy the fruits of our summer garden featured in this bar of olive oil soap, handmade with house-distilled borage hydrosol. The scent reminds us of a refreshing dip in the river – it features cool notes of eucalyptus, tea tree, cypress, and Scottish pine. On top you will find dried colorful Zinnia petals from our garden. 

We had a giant crop of borage this year, which we put through our copper still to create the hydrosol featured in this bar. Borage has long been used for skin ailments – to calm itchy or inflamed skin.  Its cooling, great on sunkissed skin.

A brisk wind sweeps between the evergreens and night draws near.

Into the cabin with candles in the windows where the fire glows, a warm cinnamon blaze.

Ribbons of Frankincense smoke rise from the golden dish on the mantle as Jasmine petals float in the water of a tarnished copper bath.

On the canvas of the snow we painted dreams of a better world full of joy, true goodwill and grateful to all be one and all be together on a beautiful world.

We dreamed a simpler world, where it was easier to be kind. We dreamed of the natural beauty and our fearlessness in darkness. We planted our dreams in the snow of the winter wonderland.

What is colostrum, and why is it such a rare treat?  Colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals for their newborn, it is a powerhouse of nutrients and plays a huge role in lifelong health.  It builds immune systems, provides anti-inflammatory qualities, lots of important nutrients and more.  Why is it such a rare treat? Colostrum is only made right before birth, and its a supercharged first milk that each baby gets.  Goats can produce enough colostrum for 2-3 babies, so if one of our mom has a single kid, we can be its “twin” and milk out the extra colostrum.  Since our goats generally have at least 2 or 3 kids each, we dont often have a surplus – but this year we had not one, but two moms with only one kid.  We milked out the extra colostrum (leaving more then enough for baby) and made this truly one of a kind bar.
